Family Network is an alliance of parents, professionals and community members interested in helping families with children who have special needs and disabilities. We provide support, education, advocacy, and respite which empowers parents to provide the best opportunities for their children.

  • MORE ALIKE THAN DIFFERENT
  • • A hands-on, interactive training and presentation to help children understand more about
    • individuals with disabilities and special needs.
    • A Program of Family Network on Disabilities of Manatee/Sarasota, Inc
    • Developed and Created By Parent to Parent of Pinellas County 2003/2004
    • More Alike Than Different (MATD) is a training program designed to increase awareness,
    acceptance, and sensitivity towards children and individuals with disabilities and special needs.
    • A trained facilitator will assist non-disabled children in participating in a variety of hands on,
    interactive activities that depict what individuals with a disability might experience on a day to
    day basis.
    • A guided group discussion, followed by a question and answer time accompanies each activity.
    • Through a deeper awareness of what it might feel like to have a disability, children become more
    sensitive and accepting of individuals with disabilities and special needs.
    • Children are encouraged to share with their families about the activities they participated in and
    how it made them feel. Each child will receive a certificate of completion for participating in the
    program.
    • Our Goal through the More Alike Than Different program is to create new friendships and learning
    experiences for ALL children.
  • More Alike Than Different programs were developed by parents of children with disabilities and special needs. They are designed for use with kindergarten through middle school students
